Already
in Love
A
spring romance was in the air.
“Is
Kelly already in love with Prince?” wondered Timothy O’Leary, the good
leprechaun-cobbler, as he gazed at her flushed face. “I apologize, but I must
have fallen asleep by the fire, early this morning.”
He
had been on watch. Stranded at the old schoolhouse with floodwater still
rising, now they needed rescuing immediately.
Timothy
carefully added several sticks of green wood to the fire.
“If
we keep the fire going, perhaps your dad may spot the smoke.”
Timothy
knew it would take Prince who he had changed from a frog back into a person time
to adjust to his new status.
Gradually
awakening, Prince picked up the four-leaf clover that Kelly, the young
Irish colleen had given him, patted the puppy and proceeded to put on
the outfit and leather sandals, Timothy had made for him during the night.
“Excuse
me. I feel rather awkward, dressed like this,” said Prince to Kelly. “I have been
a green frog for the past five years. I am not accustomed to wearing clothing
or sandals, but thank you for the outfit, Timothy.”
Prince was embarrassed about
becoming a young man, as he had been only a boy when a bad leprechaun had
turned him into a green frog. Prince had reddish-blonde hair and was so
good-looking, that Kelly felt shy. She was attracted to him, but
embarrassed too and uncertain about whether she was in love with him.
She
nodded her head.
“My
second wish came true too. I wished for more family. Now, I have you, Timothy
and a dog, as well as my dad. This is so wonderful!”
“Whew!”
thought Prince.
“Oh
no!” exclaimed Timothy, spotting the floodwater seeping under the doorway, into
the schoolhouse.
“Maybe
I should become a long distance swimmer, instead of a long distance runner,”
said Prince. “I can swim fairly well. Can you swim, Kelly?”
Prince
knew Timothy was not a swimmer, as he had already rescued him from drowning.
“I
can swim,” replied Kelly, with a smile. “I don’t know how far though.”
“Now
what do we do?” wondered Timothy.
